"I am calling for the Government to properly fund West Midlands Police Force resulting in crime being cut and not the Police Force." Jack Dromey MP
I am calling for the Government to properly fund West Midlands Police Force resulting in crime being cut and not the Police Force.
I have raised this issue in the House Of Commons Chamber many times and in a Westminster Hall debate. (You can view some of these below.)
I have also tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM1131), which if implemented would ensure the Home Office and Treasury follow their own funding formula for police forces and ensure West Midlands Police gets the proportion of the total police force funding pot its demands require.
I have also written to West Midlands Police Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, to get details of how the West Midlands Police would benefit from receiving fair funding.
If West Midlands Police receives the additional funding the force is owed, the Force could use:
• £25 million to increase police officer numbers by 500 (increasing officer numbers from 6,500 to 7,000 by 2020)
• £3.5 million to increase PCSO numbers by 100
• £6.5 million to recruit specialist staff, including financial investigators and cyber specialists
• £9 million to accelerate the introduction of new technologies to improve the service provided by West Midlands Police, increasing both efficiency and productivity, and to give more flexibility in the estates strategy.
